Prologue to Megan In Cascade

Basement FBI Headquarters

Washington DC

"Hey Mulder, how do you deal with Skinner?" Megan asked "I just got called into have a meeting with him in 20 minutes."

Mulder looked up at her framed in the office door "I don't know maybe you should ‘look’ give us all some tips on how to deal with him. I'd just go up their see how much smoke is there and keep him on edge as much as possible." Replied Mulder with his lopsided grin that would have had most of the women in the building swooning but didn't affect the two women in the office. Scully just ignored it and Megan responded in kind with a grin of her own.

"Megan just be professional and you'll get out all right." Scully advised sagely.

"OK you two so where are you off to this time and for how long? " Megan asked walking into the office and took a seat 'floating' above Mulder's desk.

"Megan you're 'floating'." Scully told her.

"Sorry." Megan said sheepishly standing up and moving to the chair that the pair had put in the office for her visits.

Mulder answers "Connecticut and about a week, why?"

Just as Mulder said that Megan was hit with a vision both of them quarantined, "guys I don't think you'll be back for a month."

Both groaned "Not quarantine again."

"Scully look on the bright side Davison told us so now we'll be careful and it wouldn't happen." Mulder told her.

The two women looked at each other Scully with the look of long suffering and Megan with her impish grin "Do you want to tell him or shall I, Scully."

"It's your gift you tell" answered Scully

"Mulder can you say paradox. Just because I told you what _may_ happen doesn't mean it will happen." Megan told him "If it does happen I'll make sure your fish don't wind floating belly-up, or I can call the Gunmen to help" Megan ended with her grin fully in place.

"Megan keep those men out of my place call my mom if we wind up in quarantine." Scully tells her.

"OK well into the breach my friends see ya later. Bye." Megan told them.

Skinner's office

As Megan entered the office, she got the shock of her life. AD Skinner was the man who protected her from the other man in the office, Megan knew who he was, not only was he the one Mulder called Cancerman, but he was also the man that tried to recruit her when she was 18.

Skinner spoke first "Agent Davison, Megan, before you fly off the handle and do something you’ll regret just listen to me. OK?" Megan nodded warily not looking away from the man she knew was responsible for the deaths of her parents.

"Megan, you have to leave DC indefinitely, things are going to happen soon and if you are found near them you'll be in great danger."

"Excuse me Sir, but putting my life on the line was in the job description why do I have to go?" Megan inquired

"Agent Davison your 'gifts' are not known to my contemporaries, should they become aware of them they will not give you a choice." Cancerman addressed her, taking a long drag on his cigarette.

"Whoa time out, when I was 18 you came at me with all of your MIB's in full force only Skinner was able to get you to back off what's changed? Why are you two working together." Megan asked confused not knowing if she was being sucked into the web of lies or not.

Skinner answered "A shared promise Megan I promised your parents and he says he promised your Grandfather that 'they' wouldn't get their hands on you. You can 'look' if you like. To make sure."

--Megan, I don't know about the smoker but Skinner is correct about the promise to your parents.— Lace told her.

*Thanks a lot guess I have to do this don't I*

--It will be for the best dear one.—

Megan looked at the two men and informed them "All right I’ll do it where do I go and when?"

Cancerman walked out leaving Skinner to tell Megan the details of her new assignment.

"OK Agent Davison" Skinner adopted a professional tone "I'm making a 'experimental' assignment for you as a liaison between the local law and the FBI. There are only four towns that I feel safe sending you to San Diego, Fairbanks, Juneau, or Cascade. Each of these field offices have never heard of you. None of their agents have been assigned to DC since you entered the Academy. There aren't any of the 'others' in these offices and you'll be unnoticed within a local police station."

"Sir how long do I have to choose a town." Megan inquired just wanting to get her new assignment on the move.

"Well Davison, we would like to have you out of here in a week so if you could choose a town now we could get every thing on track." Skinner responded.

Megan sighed and took a look at the files and letting her instincts take over she choose Cascade opening the file she saw the officer she would be assigned to Detective James Ellison.
