"We wouldn't have anything else Master." Obi-Wan said before he stepped through followed by Jack and Daniel.

The few seconds trip through the Stargate from the Jedi's point of view was like the embodiment of every lesson they ever had about the Force. They emerged from the shimmering event horizon feeling bereft, like they were gifted with an all too brief look into something magical. Now they stood in a large stark room surrounded by soldiers pointing their weapons at them. Jack and Daniel came out through the Stargate just seconds later.

"It's alright, guys, just a precaution." Daniel said to the Jedi.

"We understand. I take it things have come through that you wished hadn't?" Obi-Wan asked.

"You might say that." Jack replied.

"SG1, report to the infirmary with your guests. We will debrief afterwards Colonel O'Neill when you're done I need to speak with you."

In the infirmary Janet told Jack she had orders to perform the post mission checkup on him first. The Jedi were escorted to an isolated exam room where they awaited for their exam.

"Master, isn't this a bit extreme for traveling just to other worlds?" Obi-Wan said referring to the extreme protocols that were being used.

"I believe you're right, Padawan. I don't think we were told everything about these Goa'uld."

"I wonder what we weren't told?" Obi-Wan said.

"The fact that the Goa'uld are a parasitic life form that completely controls the host to the extent that the host has no free will. We also screen for possible diseases that our bodies don't have defenses for." Sam said walking in with Janet.

"Your medical scanning devices are unable to detect these Goa'uld? Surely a portable med-scanner, just for that purpose alone, would be able to detect the presence of this parasite?" Qui-Gon asked.

"They might if we had them as it stands now we only have the large devices and it takes too long to get the results back so we rely on old fashioned tactile exams." Janet said as she began her exam of the Jedi.

"Enter."

Jack sat down across from his boss and friend. The General knew enough secrets about SG1 to force both himself and Carter completely out of the military and into prison, Daniel would be jailed, and Teal'c would be head lab rat at Area 51. If Hammond hadn't told them when he discovered the unusual group activities that the team engaged in after difficult missions that he, 'didn't ask and didn't see a thing. It obviously works for you. Just don't let it affect your crisis responses, especially around Doctor Fraiser.' Everything was going great now Jack hoped. "Well sir you wished to see me?"

"Yes, Colonel as you know being leader of SG1 makes you more or less second in command for the base. Well, some of the brass want you to start riding the desk." Hammond said with a grimace, he knew exactly how O'Neill would respond and that was the reason for this meeting. To come up with a plan on how to get around it.

"Sir, I'm not ready to be an administrator. My talents are in the field you know that, Sir." Jack protested, a motion from the General the only thing keeping him seated.

"Yes I do know that, however quite a few of my bosses know you only for your field work. They don't think you can function as a deputy base commander. They want to let Mayborne have that job."

"No way! For crying out loud! That smarmy slime wouldn't give us a chance to do anything he'd be in our face countermanding any order. He'd be after your job before the ink would be dry on the transfer." Jack took a deep breath as he resigned himself to what looked like his new job. "If it’s a choice between me at the desk and Mayborne I'll take the job at least I understand what we're doing." Jack said regretfully. "Carter is my choice for replacement as leader. I think they'd function better as a three-man team for the time being." Jack then noticed a devious gleam in his commander's eye. "Sir, why do I think you are plotting something?"

"Because I am. SG1 tends to work better together than apart don't they?"

Jack caught on to what his boss was planning, "Yeah, we do, you could say we work like one person."

"So if I were to say that SG1 could work as a three-man team with you joining them as time and duties permitted. Provided you return to base if you were needed for some admin type duties. We could keep you going on the missions in a regular rotation, with your team providing help for your deputy base commander duties, I'm sure they'd agree." Hammond proposed.

"They would, as far as the SGC is concerned I'm your second in command anyway I'll just be doing the paperwork now, with a little help."

"That's what we'll do then. Let's just hope the brass will buy it." Hammond said. "Now just what happened on that planet? Before your transmission that you were returning with guests, you were going to meet with some elders."

"Well, Sir, that's what we thought until we found out that a Goa'uld was on her way there and that the planet had an entire population of 6 while we were there. Our guests are at the moment acting ambassadors for a Republic of Planets." Jack said accompanying Hammond to the debriefing room, where Daniel was trying to find out as much about the Jedi as he could.

"Alright people the sooner we get started the sooner we can act." Hammond said and introduced himself.
